Filmed within a remote village with the stunning backdrop of the Italian Alps, Vermiglio is a quietly haunting period tale of family life and secrets set across one year during the late stages of World War II.

Draconian father Cesare is the teacher at the local school which his children attend. His soft spot is a penchant for Chopin and Vivaldi. Into the regimented daily routine lands Pietro, an army deserter hiding out in the village community. A romance secretly ignites.

This slow-burn family saga with meticulous atmospheric detail is beautifully crafted, offsetting its austere narrative. It was this year’s winner of the Grand Jury Prize and the Best Italian Film Award at Venice Film Festival.
