Through a Government scheme, newly widowed Santosh (Shahana Goswami) receives a lifeline: she inherits her husband’s job as a police constable in the rural Badlands of Northern India.
Plunged in at the deep end, she must do the legwork for an investigation into a murdered young woman who was socially categorised as low caste. Her boss is the charismatic and tough inspector Geeta Sharma (Sunita Rajwar), who regards Santosh as her protégé – effectively a double-edged sword. Both women strive to transcend gender prejudice while experiencing its attitudes first hand, both at work among their country’s misogynistic law enforcers and within their own society. Where can Santosh turn?
