Accessible Cinema
As well as doing our best to make physical access to our buildings as straightforward and comfortable as possible, we’re also developing new strands of work.
Accessible Cinema
For longer runs of films, we aim to schedule at least one screening with subtitles for anyone affected by hearing loss.
Our Relaxed Screenings offer a more comfortable cinema experience for those who may find traditional screenings overwhelming, including individuals with autism, neurodiversity, sensory sensitivities, anxiety, and young children.
These screenings feature:
- The lighting left on low
- Reduced sound
- No trailers or adverts
- Freedom to move around and make noise
The Stage Door Bar is available as a “chill-out space” during the screening.
The Maltings
The Maltings Eastern Lane venue is now closed for a multi-million-pound redevelopment and is due to reopen by the end of 2027.
This transformational building project is funded by the Borderlands Regional Growth Deal and Northumberland County Council.
